Ardnamurchan - "Promontory of the seals" is the most westerly point of mainland Britain. Originally denoted the area where the lighthouse stands but now refers to the whole peninsula. "Murchan" is from Gaelic meaning "sea-dog", a seal or an otter. A young distillery opened in 2014. The facility is wholly reliant on renewable energy from hydro and bio-mass. A remote place reached along a single track road at the side of the beautiful Loch Sunart.

Ardnamurchan 02/22. 58.7% abv, NC, NCF, NAS.

Sweet honey and zesty lemon on the nose, hints of smoke, tarry rope and spice. Sharp citrusy mouthful, developing spice and ginger, pepper a touch of menthol and more smoke. Salty, warm, long finish. A real tingle on the tongue with a final flourish of orange and lemon peel.

Live #ScottishChampionship fitba tonight with top vs bottom. Dundee should hump Cove Rangers who prop the table up and are desperate for points.

@djl still on our wishlist, a visit to the Ardnamurchan Distillery. Maybe next year, but we will need some time for that trip.

@goossenwhisky I've not been myself. My nephew has and he says the whole trip and experience is brilliant.

Public transport is limited but there is a bus from Fort William if you have a couple of hours to spare each way. If you go during the week it will be the school bus - always an experience. A couple of years ago on a sailing trip I got the school bus from Ardfern to Lochgilphead to catch the Glasgow bus. The kids were noisy but brilliant and great fun, really interested in why I was on the bus.

I visited it a couple of weeks ago. Came away with a bottle (their "self-fill tourist trap" stuff). Interesting distillery, they're trying some novel stuff.
