Happening now:
#NJ #Democrat #CoryBooker is delivering a #filibuster in the #Senate
For nonAmericans, it simply means you block all business as long as you can speak
He started at 7 PM Monday, and spoke through the night, and is still going as of 1 PM today
We need *a lot* more than that but it's a start

edit: it's not even a filler filibuster, where you read the dictionary or something empty, he's still on point the whole speech
@benroyce
And he's done.
What a magnificent, glorious speech.
@pascaline @benroyce A bit longer than the 270 words of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, but what it lacks in brevity it makes up in passion and conviction.
@profdc9
Hey, Project 2025 took 800+ pages to say 14 words
@pascaline @benroyce
He was passionate, for sure!
I could tell he was tired on some occasions, and I sometimes wondered if his glasses would survive
When he said he would continue for 7 more minutes I felt this would not work. In cases like this a final spark will cause extra energy to go on for a bit longer. The thought of it being the end creates energy, so I thought I'd watch how much longer he would continue. He doubled his estimated time and continued for about 14
