#WritersCoffeeClub Are you inspired by the state of current world politics, or is your writing an escape from dark reality?
I write fantasy; it's a glorious bit of escapism, but we're all a product of our surroundings, so yes, there are aspects and conflicts inspired by the state of the world in there.
It's delightful to have a world full of eccentrics band together and fight against oppression and capitalism in the quirkiest ways imaginable.
Seedbomb the patriarchy!
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, Alexa. It can certainly shut me down at times, as well.
I feel lucky that I've created characters who empower me. They remind me that there are also kind, loving, strong eccentrics in this world, which gives me hope that we can stand together and collectively fight for kindness.
@HeliaXyana well, as a trans woman the constant attacks against us do take their toll, so right now my main effects are on surviving, and ensuring that should the AfD (the literal modern day Nazi Party) I have some means of escaping the country.
And I am not alone, the entire trans community are watching politics like hawks in order to plan one simple thing. How to survive.
I am sad it's necessary, but I'm glad to hear you're prepared. I can certainly understand if your heart is too heavy to create. I see that in a lot of my trans friends and family around the world.
The required vigilance is a heartbreakingly weighty burden. It's cruel that not only is there such hate in the world, but we're forced to keep an eye on it. Even when it literally makes us sick.
For now, I keep my spare bedrooms available and keep in contact more, just in case...
Being vigilant is what we need to do, and keep a bed spare for those who may need it.
I honestly thought that we had left the worst of this behind us in the 70s and 80s, but here we are, the thought of Trump, Le Pen, Wilders and Weidel being in power as heads of state and/or government terrifies me. We must do everything we can to keep them out !
