Obligatory #introduction toot.
I'm a forty-something IT professional that started his career tinkering with the C64 in the 80s.
I was on Twitter for a few years but that appears to be going down the drain lately, so figured I check out this Mastodon-thing.
Interests are music, technology, programming, electronics, 3D printing and retro-computing. My partner would say I have too many C64s and MCUs. (I'd strongly disagree.)
Hope to meet new people and have a fun and interesting time on here.
@hvangalen Interesting arithmetic - you must have been quite young tinkering with a c64 in the 80's
@craig Correct.
When my dad arrived home with a C64, he and my brother started to mess with it, and I wasn't allowed to play with it because I was too young.
Of course, I just woke up early the next morning around 5 AM and started exploring that thing with all those buttons.
I'm Dutch but I already had a decent grasp of the English language as we had a student from the USA living with us a few years before, so I could actually make sense of the manuals that came with it.
@hvangalen This could be my bio. Quite surreal. Although I'd replace C64 for Amiga 500. You might like the 'Chip SID Show' - here's the latest: https://www.mixcloud.com/radiofreematlock/the-chip-sid-show-with-max-hall-oct-26-2022/
@RetroJimmyX But...
Do you also have a hoody with a MOS 6581 on it?
@hvangalen lmao - oh dear. If I did, I probably wouldn't admit it until I knew I was in a safe place.
@RetroJimmyX Well, I do and am not ashamed to admit it.
@hvangalen As an early adopter of an open source social media platform, you're also in a safe place, lol.
Greetings from the metalheads of mastodon!
@hvangalen welcome!
. . .
Hey, wait a minute
@hvangalen Heya!
I have fond memories of playing Jumpman on the C64.
@hvangalen LOAD “*”,8,WELCOME
Were you like 5 years old when you started with C64 in the 80's?!
Not everyone got to use the C64 when it was first released. I didn't get to use one on a regular basis until about 1994 or so when they were long obsolete.
Got it. I bought mine when they were current. It was my first computer. A lot of fun. It set me on my course and career in computing.
