Finally the EU is moving to close the "Individual Vehicle Approvals" (IVA) loophole that allows people to import dangerous American pickup trucks that don't meet EU safety or emissions standards.
The IVA process was meant for the import of small volumes of classic cars, prototypes, and special-purpose vehicles.
But of course, assholes couldn't avoid abusing this to import their oversized, dangerous, polluting wankpanzer pickups that endanger the lives of everyone else.

Together, the organisations called on the EU Commission to close loopholes in European and national legislation that currently allow these vehicles to enter the EU with limited to no safety or environmental protection regulations.

Ze zijn groot en zwaar en bieden minder goed zicht. Het tegenovergestelde van sport en nut, zeg maar.
De extreme versie ervan is als een 'monstertruck' populair geworden in de VS omdat die fiscale voordelen krijgt als kleine vrachtwagen. Dat type wordt niet in de EU geïmporteerd via de fabrikanten omdat ze niet aan de strenge EU veiligheidsnormen voor een auto kunnen voldoen. Maar als je met een zelf geïmporteerde auto naar de RDW-keuring gaat krijgt het ding wèl een kenteken en mag je er wèl mee de weg op. Dat gat in de wetgeving moet gedicht worden!
